Customers appreciate the versatility of the sugar. They mention that it is great for coffee, tea, and baking.
The sugar itself is my favorite and I've been ordering the larger bags for a few years now with no issues. This last order however was not packed well at all. The box was way too big and the 1 sheet of packing paper was nowhere near adequate. I'm all for reducing the amount of packaging but not when it means half of the ordered has to be thrown out because the bag tore in multiple places and the sugar spilled out. Waste of food and money. I will be looking for a different supplier.
Allow me to start by saying I really don't know if this is a great price, or even a good price but I love being able to purchase a large quantity of Sugar In the Raw. I love Turbinado sugar and although you can get smaller bags at a health food store or even a box of bulk or packets of Sugar in the Raw at the supermarket, it's great to have a big sack of it in the cupboard.
For consumption, believe it or not but I mainly use this for beverages - coffee, tea (hot and iced), lemonades, limeades, etc. The grains of sugar are larger than regular sugar but the secret is to (even if making an iced beverage) pour a little boiling water over the sugar. Just enough to wet them and they dissolve nicely. I'm not sure what it is about raw sugar over white sugar that has such a delicious taste to it but I even go as far as to carry a few packets of it in my purse so if I go to a restaurant that doesn't offer Sugar in the Raw I have my own supply on hand. Six pounds of sugar lasts me about 2 months - depending upon how often I have friends over for a chat over a cup of joe or a tall glass of iced tea or lemonade. Even friends who normally don't put anything in their coffee or tea love how I make my beverages - I use just enough to pull out the taste of the brew of beans, leaves, or fruit. I'm not a fan of overly sweet drinks and since I don't drink carbonated beverages (even sparkling water or diet soda), I love to lightly sweeten even a glass of water with just a teaspoon of Sugar in the Raw.
The only time I can think of that I use this product in anything other than a drink is 1) I usually put about a tablespoon in my red pasta sauce - again as a flavor enhancer, and 2) it makes a killer homemade sugar scrub for the body - may sound complicated but I take about 1/4 of the sugar a dissolve it with a splash of boiling water, then add the remainder of the sugar, add some fractionated coconut oil (or any other oil will do like jojoba, castor, avocado; even olive oil from the pantry if you're out of other carrier oils) and then continue playing with the measurements of oil, sugar, and a little water until it's a good paste but a tad on the wet side. As a personal preference I like to dry scrub so I get into the shower without the water on, scoop out some scrub and start with the upper arms working in gentle small circles clockwise and counterclockwise and work my way down to my heels and toes. Then I turn on the water and rinse off and carry on with the rest of my routine - e.g. wash hair, etc. This scrub is a bit too rough for the face and neck unless you slightly dissolve all the sugar. Overall, I much prefer using sugar than salt for a body/face scrub.
I love this stuff and I really like buying in bulk because I never know when the mood will strike me to make a pitcher of iced tea or cold brew coffee or other cold drink or if I want to hop in the shower for a good scrub down.
We prefer “Sugar in the Raw” in our coffee and tea, which we make quite often. The resealable bag is very important to us because we pour from it into our sugar bowl for everyday use. The quality of the sugar is the best we’ve tried and the price was most reasonable. Highly recommend this product and seller.
I live on the island of Maui, where the best sugar in the world was once grown. I used up the last of the20 lbs. of Maui grown Plantation White sugar that I bought when sugar cane growing was ended a few years ago. Sugar in the Raw seemed like a good alternative. Maybe I was spoiled, but it doesn't compare with the Maui sugar in sweetness or flavor. As stated, it's good, but not great. (The transaction and shipping were beyond criticism, so that was a plus.)
This product was delivered in a timely fashion, well packaged.
The sugar is high quality. Useful in many recipes. It is easily poured from the ziplock closure. I like the way the sugar gives me a nice caramel colour & flavour for my crème brûlée. Im always sure not to "run out" for my baking sprees!
